Publication Ethics

The Journal of the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery adheres to the editorial ethics principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics’ code of conduct (https://publicationethics.org/guidance). These guidelines establish ethical standards for everyone involved in the scientific publication process, including editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers. The goal is to promote academic integrity and ensure that scientific communication occurs in an ethical, transparent, and responsible manner.

Authors should describe their contributions to the manuscript using the CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy (https://credit.niso.org/). Please note that not all roles apply to every manuscript, and authors may have contributed in multiple roles.

For manuscripts involving human subjects, authors must confirm that their work complies with the Declaration of Helsinki (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki). Manuscripts describing experimental work involving human participants must include a statement that the experiment was conducted with their understanding and informed written consent, as well as a statement that the responsible ethics committee approved the experiments.

For manuscripts involving experiments with animals, authors must provide a complete description of any anesthetic or surgical procedures used and evidence that all possible measures were taken to prevent animal suffering at each stage of the experiment. Artificial Intelligence

The Journal of the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery follows the Committee on Publication Ethics’ (COPE) recommendations regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research publications (https://publicationethics.org/guidance/cope-position/authorship-and-ai-tools).

When using AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, authors should only do so to improve readability and language. These technologies should be applied under human supervision and control. Authors should carefully review and edit the results, as AI can generate information that appears authoritative but may be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as authors or cited as such.

When submitting a manuscript, authors must include a statement disclosing their use of AI tools or services. This declaration does not apply to basic tools used for grammar, spelling, and reference checks. A statement is not necessary if there is nothing to disclose.
