The supporting document must be submitted. If applicable, indicate compliance with international protection guidelines and the Declaration of Helsinki, adhering to the ethical standards of the committee responsible for human/animal experimentation. The National Commission for Research Ethics (CONEP) – in accordance with CNS Resolutions No. 466 (2012) and No. 510 (April 7, 2016) – provided guidance through Circular Letter No. 166/2018-CONEP/SECNS/MS (June 12, 2018) regarding submission procedures for Case Reports via Plataforma Brasil. The Letter to the Editor category, if including a clinical case, must also be submitted to the Ethics Committee.
Protection of Human and Animal Rights (for original clinical research articles and in vivo research/case reports)
• Indicate compliance with international protection guidelines and the Declaration of Helsinki, adhering to the ethical standards of the committee responsible for human/animal experimentation. USE OF GUIDELINES
• Adherence to specific guidelines for each type of study—whether a systematic review, case report, retrospective study, or clinical trial—is essential to ensure the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of scientific research. JBCOMS recommends the use of these guidelines when preparing the manuscript.
• For systematic reviews, guidelines such as PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) ensure that the methodology for search, selection, and analysis of data is rigorous and standardized.
• For case reports, the CARE (Case Report Guidelines) is recommended to provide a detailed description of the case, thereby enhancing its utility for the scientific community.
• Retrospective studies, which analyze previously collected data, should follow guidelines such as STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology) to ensure transparency regarding data selection, analyzed variables, and potential biases.
• Furthermore, for randomized clinical trials, the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) guideline is fundamental to ensure that the design, conduct, and reporting of the results are clear and reliable.
• Adhering to these guidelines not only increases the credibility of the study but also facilitates its acceptance in high-impact scientific journals. The following links are provided for consultation:

NOTICE TO AUTHORS AND CONSULTANTS REGARDING CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION
The Journal of the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery supports the clinical trial registration policies of the WHO (http://www.who.int/ictrp/en/) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, ICMJE (http://www.wame.org/wamestmt.htm#trialreg and http://www.icmje.org/), recognizing the importance of these initiatives for the registration and international dissemination of clinical trial information in open access. Therefore, following the guidelines of BIREME/PAHO/WHO for journal indexing in LILACS and SciELO, only clinical research articles that have received an identification number from one of the Clinical Trial Registries validated by the WHO and ICMJE criteria (addresses available on the ICMJE website: http://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/clinical-trials-registration) will be accepted for publication. The identification number must be recorded at the end of the abstract. Consequently, we recommend that authors register their clinical trials before commencing execution.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rafaela Scariot
